Brunch in America is an institution. The breakfast are already hearty, so start going without food three days before…
The Westgate Hotel established its tradition more than 40 years ago. Go there by car just to have the pleasure of letting the valet taking care of it while you brunch. Go up the big staircase that brings you right in the middle of the tables covered with all sorts of food and keep your eyes wide open.
The dining room is decorated in an American vieille France kind of style. Tapestry on the walls, big bouquets, wood and fabric armchairs. Once you are seated, you’ll get orange juice, tea or coffee, but also Champagne. Then it’s up to you. Among the specialties: caviar, crayfish, salmon, oysters, sushis. For the hot plates: Pork filet mignon, lamb, roastbeef, swordfish, but the coolest thing are the omelettes that are prepared in front of you and as you wish, as well as the crepes. And not forgetting about the desserts and the chocolate fountain…
When you come back to your chair, champagne has already been poured into your glass and the pianist is playing. The clients are relatively young, almost all couples. In between mouthfull, confessions, then everyone walks by each other with a plate in hand. A noisy birthday party between girlfriends and the piano playing the birthday song. A German mother and daughter brunch. An old couple very elegant who seems to be familiar with the place and the waiters. And a wedding reception that is taking place in the next room. All of that for 42$ and a perfect occupation for a rainy Sunday.
